Each Minnesota and Wisconsin city we pave asphalt in has different natural soil. This soil has been or needs to be corrected with gravel so that the asphalt we place over it will support the weight of your vehicles. Anywhere from 4 inches of gravel to 12 inches can get the job done, depending on your soil.
We roll and compact the gravel driveway. Within two weeks we come back to install the asphalt. During that time the ground has a chance to solidify further. When we install the asphalt we pave a thickness of approximately four inches that will finish at three inches thick when rolled. Dressing up the edges by beveling them at 45 degrees adds a finishing touch.
What happens from the time you sign a contract to the time the work is done?
"Lets just say its great when a homeowner is flexible and says to me I just want it in before Winter. Since not everyone says that and everyone has busy schedules, I give you an idea at the time of the sale when you could expect us. I set up the work by areas and give a call the day or night before we come. Because everyone is so busy I need home and work phone numbers along with emails. Communication is important to you and I make the time. I will be in touch with you at every step of the process. Weather can change plans and does for sure".
Typical Time Table
Day one of us being on the job gets your driveway prepared for the day we come back and pave it.
Day two which is up to two weeks after preparing your driveway we pave it.
In between day one and two you will be able to drive on the prepared gravel.
After we install the asphalt you will be able to walk on it the following day.
Drive into the garage after three days.
Park on it after seven days.

Quick Response Time
We have a big footprint in the St. Croix Valley, Western Wisconsin and throughout St. Paul and its suburbs. Our equipment is stored in Oakdale for quick access to these areas.
Residential driveways make up the bulk of our work along with parking lots. New construction and replacements of existing driveways or parking lots keep us very busy on our seven-month season. Since we have several new and repeat clients we centralized our equipment for the fastest possible response time.
Keep in mind that on warm days asphalt absorbs the heat of the day and can be marked by tires, kickstands or any other pressure points.
These marks will be more visible on cloudy days or when the driveway is wet. Sometimes you will see the roller marks when the light is right. As the driveway ages these cosmetic looks will diminish, and they do not compromise the longevity of the driveway. One other thing that brings some questions is the rock that shows in asphalt. We are installing a three inch finished thickness of asphalt. The more rock the better for strength. The rock can be more concentrated in various areas of the driveway which can’t be helped and does not compromise the driveway in any way.
Most driveways are wider than the width of the paver. This means that there will be joints where one pour will meet the next pour. These can be seen on all asphalt surfaces that are wider than one width of the paver. These joints in time fade out or are hidden by sealcoat should you decide to sealcoat.
How does cracking relate to our guarantee. We have a written five year guarantee that says your driveway will not break up. If that were to occur there would be a number of cracks in a concentrated area that would look like a spider web. We guarantee that won’t happen.
We cannot guarantee that the asphalt won’t crack through. Living in a freeze thaw climate there is expansion and contraction of the ground which can crack the surface. This can happen as early as the first year the driveway goes through a Winter Spring cycle. Tree roots can also crack a driveway as well as earth movement. These all are maintenance issues that can be addressed very inexpensively by placing a crack filler in the crack. All home improvement stores carry the product.
When we have repeat business by a customer that stays in the same home it is somewhere between 20 to 30 years after we placed the original driveway. Its always fun to meet up with them again. It is our quality and service that makes this happen.
